It is a document where all the principles, processes, procedures, and design guidelines governing management of alarms at your site are recorded. It covers all phases of the alarm management lifecycle from identification, design, and implementation, though to operation, maintenance, and decommissioning.

In the standards, Alarm Rationalisation is defined as the “process to review potential alarms using the principles of the alarm philosophy, to select alarms for design, and to document the rationale for each alarm”.
